American Heritage

The first two-week theme is called American Heritage . During this time, we call attention to our country's marvelous history: the age of the Native American and Mountain Man.

Campers and staff create a day-long event called "Rendezvous" which includes mountain man games, flapjack eating challenges, watermelon seed spitting, fording the creek, trading pelts, and bartering with the snake oil salesman for goods. Through dance, skits and games, campers learn Native American traditions of the plains, Southwest, and costal tribe rituals.

Our first full session climaxes with a dramatic Pow Wow, complete with costumes, feathers and war paint. All "tribes" come together to display the culture, legends, ceremonies, and dances particular to the campers' own tribe.

American Heritage is all about outdoor fun - the mood is positive and mellow with non-competitive activities that build self-esteem. It's an excellent choice for first-time campers.
