Knighthood

Our oldest and most traditional theme, Knighthood, is scheduled for mid summer. This storied session explores the Arthurian tales, emphasizing personal growth and character development. Traditional ceremonies are enriching, sometime serious and intellectual and the expectation to be your best self is explored and promoted through the daily activities. Campers are encouraged to look within themselves for ways to grow in timeless character traits such as responsibility, courage, patience and humility. Knighthood is rich in ceremony and pageantry and leaves a lasting impression on camper and staff alike.

The Knighthood sessions are intensive and are best suited for campers who are acquainted with Geneva Glen and feel comfortable in our cooperative, yet rustic setting.

Knighthood I: July 6-July 19, 2008**

Knighthood I unfolds the history of the Arthurian legends and Round Table stories by learning of Merlin. The culminating event of Knighthood I is "Merlin's Masque," an all day play which takes place in the Council Ring in three acts and dramatizes the book entitled The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart.

Knighthood II: July 20-August 2, 2008

Knighthood II picks up where Knighthood I ends in the story line: Merlin ushers in the rise of Arthur, the King, and the coming of Camelot. During Knighthood II campers select a "Court," by vote, which will portray the King and Queen, and the Lords and Ladies of the Court of Camelot. The culminating event of Knighthood II is a day long "Pageant" in six acts, performed by members if the Court. All cabin and dorm groups present "a gift" to the Court during Pageant in the form of music, drama, dance or a tangible gift. Knighthood I and Knighthood II end with Ladies' Court and Knight's Induction, the ceremony with the most meaning during these two sessions.

**Please note: Knighthood I is not a prerequisite to Knighthood II
