Current and former campers and staff talk about what Geneva Glen Camp has meant to them throughout their lives...
Geneva Glen has helped me grow and be who I am. I have learned many things from camp that i would not have learned anywhere else and i look forward to camp all year long. There is something special about this camp that puts it in the front of the line. -- Lauren Kashuk , camper, current staff
I have been a part of the GG community for over a decade (two as a camper and eight on staff). During this time, GG has helped me to establish my own identity, helping me live my life as I want to live it. Previously I had just gone through life waking up every morning and going to sleep at night. Geneva Glen has definitely given me goals as well as a reason to live. The magic in the Glen has made me the person I am today, and I am thankful. -- Kevin Lee, camper and staff
Geneva Glen has meant so much to me over the years. In the past 15 summers, I have experienced my childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood all at GG. It is my second home -- a place I grew and flourished; where I was shown how to be not only a virtuous person but someone who gives that to others. -- Zac Eller, camper and staff
Trying to explain the magic of the Glen to someone who has never experienced camp is like trying to explain baseball for the first time ... so much of it is indescribable and must be learned by experience.
I think that in some point during our time of "growing up" we all seek and need a place where we can learn about ourselves. Most often this place is not school where classes and cliques get in the way. Neither is it family, for the comfort of home can breed stagnation. No. We need a place where we can discover our limits, and then surpass them, a place where we can tell a joke that isn't funny and still make people laugh, a place where we can breathe deep and sing loud, a place where we can watch the stars and moon at night before drifting off to sleep, and most of all, a place where we can be surrounded by genuine love and friendship every step of the way. For me, that place is Geneva Glen.
When people at Harvard ask me why I would go work at a summer camp instead of interning in an investment bank or working for a senator in Washington, I look them in the eye and say "because being in the Colorado mountains with three hundred close friends teaches me more about life than any internship ever could." And then I smile at their look of disbelief and tell them to enjoy their summer in a suit. -- Daniel Baer, camper and staff
I think of Geneva Glen as not just a typical "summer camp" but as a way of life. There is not one day that goes by that I don't apply one of the lessons I learned at camp. Not exactly lessons about right and wrong but lessons about myself. Geneva Glen is a place where one learns more about him or herself in two weeks than many people may learn in a lifetime. This idea of knowing who you are and what you are about comes through hours of laughter and fun. Every child is encouraged to do the best they can through countless outdoor and wilderness experiences. If they are willing to try something new there is always a staff member there to support them.
Speaking as a kid that started out a little shy and timid myself, I am proof that Geneva Glen can help in teaching a child to trust themselves and believe in who they are (now they can't get me to sit down!!!). I fully believe that I would not be who I am today without Geneva Glen! -- Kristin Stewart, camper and staff
Geneva Glen has been the place where I see all of my dearest friends and the place where all of my favorite memories reside. Geneva Glen is an amazing camp. -- Erick Hanna, camper and staff
